Adelina Ramírez
A rising senior at San Diego High School, Adelina Ramírez active involvement in both her school and community has inspired her unwavering commitment to social justice and youth advocacy. As early as the 8th grade, Adelina centered her community project around raising awareness about Chicano Park and securing funds for Latinx themed books in her school library, continuing her involvement in 2023 as a docent for the CPMCC during Chicano Park Day and in 2024 as a participant in the Sin Mujeres No Hay Revolución event. Now, Adelina is in the Aaron Price Fellows Program, a four year fellowship founded by Price Philanthropies focused on youth, civic and leadership engagement, along with serving as Student Chair of San Diego Unified’s Racial Justice and Equity Committee, collaborating with the Board of Education to ensure district policies are equitable for marginalized students and was later a student speaker host at SDUSD’s inaugural Latinx Heritage Month Flag Raising. Adelina was also a UCSD intern with the Center for Research on Educational Equity, Assessment & Teaching Excellence, where she supported underrepresented K-12 students by organizing outreach and educational programs. In 2023, Adelina was also awarded San Diego County Public Defender’s Office 25 Most Remarkable Teens Award in Social Justice, recognizing her leadership and civic engagement in youth advocacy for social equity. Most recently, Adelina was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom to serve on the Youth Empowerment Commission. Inspired by her community’s resilience, Adelina looks forward to growing as an agent of change by majoring in public policy and becoming further involved in government politics.

“After being underrepresented in decision making spaces, being an intern at the Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center has provided me with the environment to not only become more engaged in my community, but also to lean into a sacred space that celebrates Chicanismo, prioritizes cultural preservation and advances a legacy of change. Oftentimes, youth is cast as future leaders, overlooking our ability as current changemakers- however, by interning at CPMCC, I’ve had the privilege of stepping into an empowering space where I can further my skills in advocacy and representing marginalized communities alongside other active and passionate youth.”
Sebastian Higuera Rodelo
Sebastian’s interest in engineering began with witnessing his dad’s physical, hands-on process of building his family home. As president of his high school’s robotics club, he developed leadership and critical problem-solving skills while teaching students about engineering mechanisms. His success in robotics motivated him to major in mechanical engineering at UCLA. After graduating, Sebastian aspires to become an engineer for a formula 1 team. In his free time Sebastian loves building and expanding his Lego technic car collection.
From this internship, Sebastian seeks to learn more about the park as a significant piece of Chicano history, while also getting experience on what it’s like working in a professional setting. He’s happy to use this internship as an opportunity to give back to his community and culture

“ Being a part of this internship teaches me about my community’s history and myself. This internship helps me be more comfortable in a professional setting and meeting new people”
